Tainted Lust, and The Pen > The Sword

Rose colored ear buds
A lone violin plays
The tune of love, or so you think
You can’t stop listening
You’re so enamored
He’s the perfect catch
But love is not yours to have, only loss
Don’t blame him for catching on
You can’t, for it’s like blaming the sun for shining
What did you expect?
You thought you’d sow your wild oats and reap a good harvest
But no
That’s not the way it works
When you give away too many keys to your heart
It will only get broken
The rose petals now wither to dust on the bed you made
Lie down
You can’t escape this time
—————————-

I climb out of bed
And jump on my horse
I cannot be late
The loss would be worse
I race to the site
And ready my sword
This fight must go on
I gave her my word
I’m nervous and shaking
I know not who will win
Today I may die
But to run would be sin
I lunge forward and swing
And am tripped to the ground
I try to stand up
And am kicked while I’m down
I try to escape
Roll onto my back
I’m struck in the head
And my whole world goes black

I wake up ready to fight
Suddenly I know that I can
But I need not; my foe is myself
And my sword is just a pen.

This is the first of what will be many responses to the Indie Ink Writing Challenges. My prompt from Katri was “Write a poem that includes the words violin, loss, keys and bed”.
Note: the challenge was only for one poem, but midway through writing it, I was struck by a few lines from the second. Although it only contains two of the four prompt words, I was overwhelmed by the need to write it, and therefore I felt compelled to share it.

I issued a challenge to Jules: “You wake up and find the world is in black and white.”

Both very powerful poems. The second one I can relate to, going into battle with only my pen. Nicely done.
